Legends, Myths and Mysteries of Sintra
Former Central Hotel, future Central Palace Hotel. The hotel is located in Sintra’s historical centre opposite the Royal Palace. Since 2014, and while renovation works on the bedrooms are pending approval, it has been functioning as a restaurant on the ground and first floors, with diverse rooms ranging in size and space as well as in decoration, which includes classic and contemporary design. It is a venue that encompasses history, mystery and legends.
The place where the Hotel Central stands today dates back to 1154 when King Afonso Henriques and his wife Lady Mafalda donated the land to Gualdim Pais "Sixth" Grand Master of the Knights Templar, which he then entrusted to the Knights Templar. The Knights Templar inhabited the location for centuries and even today traces of their existence can be observed in the Hotel.
